Collective bargaining
ACCC-approved negotiations with Meta and Google for fair compensation on behalf of independent publishers.
Who we are
An alliance of independent Australian publishers with ACCC approval to collectively bargain with Meta and Google.
Background
PIPA is an alliance of independent Australian publishers that was formed in December 2021 and has an exemption from the Australian Competition & Consumer Commission (ACCC) to collectively bargain with the digital platforms Meta and Google.
PIPA publishers reflect the media diversity in Australia, representing small independent publishers coast to coast from Sydney to Perth, rural and regional, metropolitan, national, multicultural, LGBTQI+ and specialist outlets.
Our goal
Ensure that small independent publishers are represented — not just major media empires — in the fight for fair compensation from digital platforms.
Through collective bargaining, PIPA gives Australia's independent news outlets a united voice in negotiations with Meta and Google, helping secure sustainable funding for journalism that serves local and diverse communities.
Our pillars
ACCC-approved negotiations with Meta and Google for fair compensation on behalf of independent publishers.
Representing metropolitan, regional, multicultural, LGBTQI+ and specialist outlets across Australia.
Protecting journalism that serves communities, not just corporate balance sheets.
